LiveCycle Designer ES2 SP2 Now Available

For those of you who have the right licensing agreement, you can now download the LiveCycle ES2 Service Pack 2 patch which updates LiveCycle Designer ES2 to version 9.0.0.2 as well as Workbench and LiveCycle as a whole if you have them installed.

New LiveCycle Enterprise Cafe Knowledge Application

There is a new version of Adobe LiveCycle Café, renamed Adobe Enterprise Café, available for download. The new version lets you “aggregate content related to Adobe LiveCycle ES (Enterprise Suite), Acrobat, Connect, ColdFusion, and the Adobe Flash Platform in a timely and customized fashion.”

If you haven’t tried this out yet, it’s a great knowledge tool that lets you search across the entire Adobe Developer Community and Adobe DevNet resources, as well as get news updates, feeds, online training, events, etc., all in a single Adobe AIR application. You can even chat with other Adobe Developers who are online.

Designer ES2 Scripting Reference

This is one of the references I find the most useful when writing scripts and it’s now available for Designer ES2.

What’s more, you can now find all of the ES2 Developer and Programmer documentation all in a single place just like all ES2 documentation (which includes the Dev and Prog docs from the former link). Great sites to bookmark and nice to finally have it all in one spot!

This all comes to you due to the recent LiveCycle Developer Center site refresh in conjunction with the recent release of LiveCycle ES2. Check it out!

LiveCycle ES2 Ships

Adobe’s enterprise platform, LiveCycle Enterprise Suite 2, is now officially released.

This means, amongst other awesome things about this release, that LiveCycle Designer ES2 (version 9.0) is officially released as well! Designer ES2 supports XFA 3.0 which is already supported by Acrobat 9.1.

Adobe MAX 2009 Lab Update

We have been hard at work on our Solution Accelerator lab (filter by Speaker and choose my name, “Cameron, Stefan”). Now that the content is coming together, there have been a few changes which I thought I should mention in light of my previous post.

In order to ensure the lab is successful in the short amount of time we have (90 minutes) to build a small end-to-end solution, the Content Creation (CCR) and Correspondence Generation (CGR) building blocks will no longer be featured. Instead, we will feature the following building blocks, which should give you a taste for their power to accelerate your own solutions:

Selection and Capture (SNC) — capture data and guide users through filling specific forms within a given set;
Review, Commenting and Approval (RCA) — review the submitted forms and approve or reject as needed;
On-Demand Assembly (ODA) — automate the creation of a PDF package, a single PDF document containing a copy of submitted forms and other appropriate documentation.

In the mean time, here’s some fun MAX trivia. You never know when it might come in handy…

LiveCycle ES U1 SP3

The third service pack for LiveCycle ES Update 1 (updating to version 8.2.1.3) has just been released. This update, as with previous service packs, is only available to those who have a support agreement. If you do, you should contact Adobe in order to get access to the downloads.

There aren’t any major improvements to LC Designer in this update, aside from a few bug fixes. The really good stuff is coming soon with the pending release of LiveCycle ES2, presently in Beta.

Adobe MAX 2009

I have just been asked to be one of the speakers/trainers for the “Developing Enterprise Solutions Using Adobe Solution Accelerators” lab in the LiveCycle Develop track at MAX this year. Once you’ve registered for MAX, launch the Scheduler and choose “By Session > Filter By: (product) LiveCycle ES; (speaker) Cameron, Stefan” to see my sessions. I will most likely be focusing my time on the Correspondence Generation (CGR) and Content Creation (CCR) building blocks which ship as part of the Solution Accelerator SDKs.

Out for Coffee, Back in a Month

Well, I’m not out for coffee for an entire month but I will be away on vacation starting today, returning July 6, 2009. I will not be posting during that time period but I will try my best to keep-up with comments though it will not be my first priority…

In the mean time, if you feel like a coffee break, you should check-out the new Adobe LiveCycle Café: It’s a really cool AIR app by Adobe that integrates all sorts of LiveCycle-related resources into one convenient dashboard. It even lets you tag content for offline use and store personal notes, online or offline.

You get a really nice News page:

(There’s even a tab that lets you switch between “Post Summary” and “Site” to see the article via the feed or the actual web page.)

Another really nice feature is the ability to search in one location across all Adobe LiveCycle resources. For instance, I searched for “assignNode” (a function to create data nodes in the Data DOM) and actually got a hit right in a LiveCycle reference document — very handy!

Adobe Forums Revamped

The Adobe Forums have finally received a long-awaited update. Here are some of new feature highlights I was told about:

Integration of Adobe ID for true single sign on to all Forums;
Updated look and feel, more consistent with other forum systems;
Email participation, including starting a new discussion and alerts; and
RSS feeds for many parts of the forum (topics, users, announcements, etc.).

Rest assured, this does not change my blog mission, however if you have previously used the forums to search for other LiveCycle, Acrobat or Reader tips and tricks, it’ll make your life much easier!
